Commitment 2050 to Sustainable Development

Society’s Commitment to Sustainable Development is a long-term, shared objective for the future of Finland. The idea is simple – concrete actions, measurable results.

The Finnish National Commission on Sustainable Development agreed upon the Society’s Commitment to Sustainable Development in 2013.
The core of the commitment consists of the 8 joint goals, to which different actors give their own operational commitments that can be measured and monitored.

Commitment 2050 of Perho

Perho Culinary, Tourism & Business College commits itself to educating responsible future professionals who are in the process of becoming the envoys of sustainable gastronomy and tourism. Respect for nature now and in the future is our starting point when we build new kinds of learning environments and learning models in co-operation with the ELO Foundation as pioneers.

Summary: Our commitment is based on three stories of “Forest, Field and Water”.

Forest

Our goal is to educate wild-food experts who are able to make extensive use of wild food and tell stories about Finnish wild-food and wild-food taste experiences. The goal is also to create a “working together with good food culture” and to give new ideas to food and tourism professionals. The wild food know-how of food professionals was started in co-operation with the ELO Foundation.

Field

The common farm-field at Malmi Campus will be built on the basis of the Community Supported Agriculture model, whose idea is to support small-scale, organic farming and involve urban people and stakeholders. In this case, the field can also be used as an occupational therapeutic place where the nature and the field area are utilized to maintain and increase the well-being of people. The field will be a place where food is raised ecologically and sustainably. Urban people, tourists, students and professionals in the industry can see where the food comes from, how it moves in ecological and sustainable gastronomic philosophy from the field to the kitchen and to the plate. Participants also learn to understand the whole life cycle of soil management.

Water

We encourage you to recycle bottles and drink water from the durable bottles that can be re-filled with tap water. We strongly recommend that you reduce and gradually abandon plastic water bottles. By drinking pure water from your own bottle, you are contributing to the environment by reducing the generation of plastic waste. Plastic particles interfere with aquatic ecosystems all over the world, including in Finland.

Further information about Commitment 2050

On Commitment 2050 website, organisations, companies and private individuals can give operational commitments to sustainable development and ideas on implementing sustainable development, and they can challenge other actors to join. All actors in society are invited to join the work; private individuals can also give operational commitments. An operational commitment that has goals and can be measured is an excellent tool for developing the operation of a company or a community, for example. An operational commitment includes goals, indicators and a schedule set by the party making the commitment that also enters them into this database. After the commitment has been entered and marked as complete, it is published in this online service. The Finnish National Commission on Sustainable Development, the general secretariat and the expert panel monitor and support the commitments and their progress.
