What is your personal eco-activity?
In our vocational school system at Perho Culinary, Tourism & Business College, there are working, studying and eating hundreds of people on daily basis, so the environmental impact can be quite large.. By following sustainable practices, there can be more eco-efficient actions and less negative impacts for the environment.
The common intention is learning to notice the main negative affects immediately in order to gain the maximum sustainable benefit of all the resources. Eco-efficiency, as well as the moderation is something that everyone can contribute through their choices of consumption. Our choices are sound transition to a more sustainable way of life.
Changes in your consumption patterns does not mean a return to the time before the invention of the electric light bulb. On the contrary, it may be a change towards a new & innovative kind of well-being and finding even better quality of life. Just a few small acts of behavior may achieve annual big environmental savings!
- Staff and students are encouraged to use both sides of paper – in order to reduce the over use of expensive copy paper. The copying process is two-sided whenever possible.
- Print or copy only when it is necessary; or you may use digital versions of documents.
- School and the restaurant use primarily rental textiles. Discarded towels and table cloths are used as cleaning fabric. Microfiber cloths and bio-organic washing and cleaning agents are also recommended.
- Eco-labeled products, services and renewable products or material are used as much as possible.
- The use of any disposable products is minimized. PVC, as well as individually wrapped products are avoided (butter packs, single serving yogurt containers, coffee capsules, etc.)
- Hazardous waste is minimized by the use of rechargeable batteries and battery packs.
- The use of domestic and long-lasting furniture, that is recyclable, is recommended.
- The use of folio paper or plastic bags are minimized—they are replaced by the use of lids and containers.

The loss of biodiversity weakens ecosystems , which is also a threat to human existence. People will benefit from the services provided by healthy ecosystems in many ways!
- Ecosystems sustain the production of food, energy, medicines and other essential products, basic raw materials.
- Ecosystems regulate climate, flooding, purify water and help the decomposition of hazardous substances; all activities supporting quality of life.
- Biodiversity provides nourishment of the life and aesthetic experiences and acts as a source of scientific innovation.
- Ecosystems support many manufacturing processes in maintaining the water cycle, soil richness, as well as biomass and food production.
