Honey by Perho at Töölö and Malmi campuses
Two beehives where brought to the fifth floor terrace at Perho in the spring of 2013. During the first season of 2013, Perho received total of about 70 kg of honey. The second season (2014) provided about 110 kg of honey. In the late summer of 2014, two additional beehives were added to Töölö Campus.
In spring of 2018, two beehives were also added to Malmi Campus. As of now, Perho College has beehives at both campuses, in Töölö and in Malmi!
Teaching kitchens and the Restaurant Perho utilize extracted honey and fresh honeycombs in variety of ways.
Bees produce honey, but their pollination is perhaps even more valuable. Bees are important pollinators for the variety of crops, as well as natural plants! The seasonal harvests can be increased by up to 50% if there are beehives nearby.
Community Supported Apple Orchard
Since the autumn of 2014, Perho has been purchasing six shares of apples every year from Råbäck Gård community supported apple orchard farm, in Espoo. One share of seasonal apples includes fifteen apple trees—about 15 kg of apples. The cost of one share is 40 euros. (http://rabackgard.fi/ )
Apple shares include four varieties of apples: Geneva Early, Nanna, Rubinola and Amorosa.
