Compliance with safety instructions, cleanliness and order, as well as the use of common sense are the best ways to prevent work-related injuries.
Safe working practices are:
- ensuring cleanliness and order in the premises throughout the whole shift
- when not in use, place the products and equipment into their correct areas
- remove any grease stains, water or garbage of the floor
- make sure that machines and equipment are in good condition
- inform your teacher or supervisor immediately about any problems or issues with machines or equipment
- turn off the power before pulling the plug out of the socket
- wash knives immediately after use
- always carry a knife blade downwards
- be sure that your oven mitts are intact and dry
- warn your colleagues about hot pans
- do not run in the kitchen or restaurant premises
Your teachers and supervisors will instruct you in greater details about occupational safety.
